12-2-11 Valuable Sacrifice, Reasonable Service

Today's Reading: 1 Cor 9-11

1 Corinthians 9:27
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Paul has his sights on a crown which God alone will give him — and he bends his body, mind and spirit towards that greatest prize. He wants not only to be saved through Christ, but also to give his very best for his Lord.

Paul had one great goal in life: to glorify the Lord by winning the lost and building up the saints. To reach this goal, he was willing to pay any price. He was willing even to give up his personal rights! He sacrificed immediate gains for eternal rewards, immediate pleasures for eternal joys.

Tomorrow's Reading: 1 Cor 12-14
