2 Corinthians 6:17–7:1
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
7 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
At first glance it would seem that our relationship with God is conditional upon our works and our abilities - our decision making process. We need to not be deceived by this faulty way of thinking. Our disappointments are just that, “ours”. God looks at us through the blood of Christ and sees what Christ did for us to set us free from the bondage of sin.
Here’s the big theme, the great truth, the message: these are not conditions they are promises!
The first of verse 1 ch 7 tells us that God promises to be our Father when we are saved and that as a result of His love for us and out of gratitude for all the love He has shown we ought to surrender ourselves and serve Him fervently.
