12-7-11 Be Encouraged

Today's Reading: 2 Cor 10-13

2 Corinthians 13:10–14 
10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. 

11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. 12 Greet one another with an holy kiss. 13 All the saints salute you. 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. 


At times preachers must tear down before they can build up. The farmer must pull up the weeds before he can plant the seeds and get a good crop. Paul had to tear down the wrong thinking in the minds of the Corinthians before he could build up the truth in their hearts and minds. The negative attitude of the Corinthians made it necessary for Paul to destroy, but his great desire was to build.

Paul encouraged the saints to cultivate grace, love, and peace. The word translated farewell means “grace,” a common form of greeting in that day. It also means rejoice.

Be of good comfort means “be encouraged.” In spite of all their sins and problems, they had every right to be encouraged.
