Today's Reading: Romans 11-13
Romans 8:10–11
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
When a person gets saved they begin to live a righteous life. This life is not lived in the power of the Law, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Law was put into place to revel and condemn sin. It does not have the power to produce holiness. Obedience to God’s will comes only by the indwelling Holy Spirit which also enables us to walk in this obedience. The righteousness that God demands in His Law is fulfilled in you through the Spirit’s power. In the Holy Spirit we have life.
On the other hand the legalist seeks to obey God in his own strength. This causes failure when we try to measure up to the righteousness that God demands. The Spirit-led Christian, as he yields to the Lord, experiences the sanctifying work of the Spirit in his life. For it is God that works in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure.
